Breaking record after record, the Xiaomi YU7 GT is in the news once again. The electric SUV has made a new record on the Nurburgring once again. However, this time it has made the quickest lap around the ring without any driver, or in fact, without anyone seated inside the car.
Xiaomi YU7 GT is the fastest driverless car

Yes, you read it right. The YU7 GT just did a Nurburgring lap in 10 minutes and 29.483 seconds, completely autonomously by using its self-driving technology. Moreover, the YU7 GT became the fastest-ever car around the Nurburgring in May 2026, when it completed a lap in 7 minutes and 34.93 seconds. The latter was done by a professional driver, and the YU7 GT had beaten the Audi RS Q8 Performance, the previous record-holder, by 1.76 seconds.
Meanwhile, last year a prototype of the SU7 Ultra became the fastest-ever car around the world to complete a lap of the Nurburgring in 6 minutes and 22.09 seconds. Considering these timings, the current fully-autonomous lap is technically the “slowest” for the electric SUV.
As per Xiaomi, the YU7 GT’s autonomous driving technology uses LiDAR and Radar-based sensors that read the road conditions and the elevation change. The elevation change around the Nurburgring is around 300 metres, and the YU7 GT maneuvered it perfectly. Xiaomi has also revealed that it will use the data from this project to further sharpen its self-driving autonomous driving technology.
Battery specifications and performance
Powering the Xiaomi YU7 GT is a 101.7 kWh battery pack, paired with a quad-electric motor setup producing 1,003 bhp of peak power. The company claims it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 2.92 seconds, while offering a top speed of up to 300 km/h. It can also deliver up to 705 km of range as per the CLTC cycle.

The YU7 GT is yet to be introduced in the UAE. It is currently available only through the private importers in the UAE.
