What is new on the 2026 Toyota Corolla GR Sport?

Not long ago, Toyota revealed the next-generation Corolla concept to the world. However, there is still time in its production form to reach the global market. But, Toyota isn’t sitting idle until then, as the brand has revised the Corolla nameplate for MY2026 in Europe.

The newly unveiled 2026 Corolla GR Sport wears a slight revision in the form of a new Onyx Grey exterior paint finish. This is the first time ever that the brand has used this colour on any of its production versions. The Onyx Grey is now available for the Corolla GR Sport sedan and hatchback versions in the European market.

Meanwhile, the ‘regular’ Corolla now receives the all-new Storm Grey colour option. The same exterior colour is also available for the standard Corolla hatchback.

Apart from the new exterior paint finishes, Toyota has updated the interiors as well. The biggest change to the cabin is the fresh use of the Samara recycled interior materials, which is a big step forward in the brand’s target of becoming free of the carbon footprint. The new material finds its way to the seat backs and cushions on the Mid and Touring Sports trims.

Mechanically, the MY26 Corolla remains unchanged for the European market. Unlike the UAE, Toyota offers Corolla in Europe with a 1.8-litre (138 bhp) and a 2.0-litre (178 bhp) petrol engine options.
Meanwhile, the GR Sport features the HEV hybrid technology for more efficiency. Interestingly, for Toyota, the ‘GR Sport’ badge on the mass production cars is to offer more fuel economy and a smooth driving experience.
Will it come to the UAE?
Well, the answer is no. Why? It is because Toyota is already in the midst of developing the all-new Corolla. The next-generation Corolla is expected to arrive in the Middle East, which is Toyota’s top market globally, by 2027.
Therefore, it makes no sense for Toyota to upgrade or update the current Corolla in the UAE. Nevertheless, the Corolla remains the top-seller for Toyota in the Middle East and the UAE especially.
Cars24 UAE says
The new MY26 Corolla update is a rather mid update. It is not very exciting, but if you are a lover of new exterior colours, this update will certainly interest you. However, we are waiting for the next-generation Corolla and its EV version eagerly.
