Cadillac is soon going to update the XT5 SUV in the Chinese market. The 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) details have been revealed through the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The upcoming XT5 SUV will also come equipped with new exterior and interior design updates.

The upcoming 2027 XT5 plug-in hybrid model will offer a new “dual-motor” drivetrain. The new dual electric motors will be driven by the 5C-capable lithium battery setup with plug-in hybrid technology.

Moreover, the MIIT website has also revealed that it will feature a 148 bhp petrol engine. This engine will be paired with a 215 bhp (front) and 148 bhp (rear) electric motor setup.

This could also mean that the new XT5 PHEV will be a range-extender vehicle; a niche that is popular in the Chinese car market. The new iteration of the SUV will get the all-wheel drive configuration as well.

New design and more features

Along with a new powertrain, Cadillac has also revised the exterior design of the 2027 XT5 PHEV. It features a redesigned fascia with new daytime running lights and a new bumper. These changes resonate with the Cadillac Lyriq and Optiq models.

The side profile is largely unaltered, save for the new aerodynamic alloys and red brake callipers. The rear design now packs a new bumper without exhaust outlets.

Cadillac has also added a LiDAR sensor on the roof, new side cameras mounted on the mirrors, and turquoise LED daytime running lights at the front. Online reports hint that the new XT5 will feature the “Super Duper Cruise”, which includes the adaptive cruise control that can maneuver through city traffic, take roundabouts, and make lane changes.

Moreover, Cadillac has claimed that the new XT5 PHEV has been designed to “comfortably and confidently” take over the streets with the new driving assist features. The safety system has been designed to recognise real-world scenarios and react accordingly.

UAE buyers still need to wait

Cadillac XT5 is a popular SUV in the UAE, known for its comfortable and upmarket interior experience. However, UAE buyers are still driving the old-generation XT5, while the global market is set to receive the PHEV update for the second-generation model.

We hope that Cadillac will bring the new-generation XT5 PHEV to the UAE soon. The current model is priced at AED 180,000-247,000.
