XPENG has introduced its Kunpeng Super Range Extender technology to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), alongside the launch of the Grand Xplore Tour featuring the new XPENG GX SUV. The programme aims to demonstrate the vehicle’s long-distance driving capabilities across the region, including the UAE’s highways and desert terrain.
The announcement was made at a media workshop held at XPENG’s Dubai showroom on October 6, 2026. The GX combines electric propulsion with a petrol-powered generator, offering an alternative to conventional petrol SUVs and fully electric vehicles for buyers who frequently travel long distances.
According to XPENG, the SUV offers a combined driving range of up to 1,585 km under China’s CLTC testing cycle, with a claimed electric-only range of 430 km.
Xpeng GX: UAE price and availability
XPENG has not announced official UAE pricing or delivery dates in its Grand Xplore Tour announcement. The company says the GX has received more than 3,000 orders across the Middle East, indicating early interest in its range-extended SUV.
The planned regional tests should provide a clearer picture of how the GX performs on GCC roads, particularly during long-distance journeys and in extreme heat. Buyers will need to wait for confirmed local specifications, pricing and delivery information before making a purchase decision.
Xpeng GX: Range-extender tech and performance

The XPENG GX uses the brand’s Kunpeng Super Range Extender system, which allows the wheels to be driven electrically while a petrol engine generates electricity when required. The setup is designed to reduce reliance on charging stations during longer journeys.
The SUV features a 63.3 kWh battery pack and a 60-litre fuel tank. Its third-generation 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works as a generator rather than serving as the primary source of propulsion.
XPENG has equipped the GX with an 800V electrical architecture and 5C ultra-fast charging capability. The company claims the battery can charge from its current level to 70% in approximately 12 minutes under suitable conditions.

The electric drive system produces a claimed 210 kW (282 hp) and 465 Nm of torque. XPENG also says the vehicle can maintain consistent performance at low battery levels, including sustained cruising at speeds of up to 150 km/h.
The manufacturer claims the range-extender system increases cabin noise by no more than 0.5 decibels, thanks to vibration isolation, active cylinder-stop control and electronic noise cancellation.
Xpeng GX: Interior, space and features

The XPENG GX is positioned as a premium six-seat SUV, with a cabin designed to accommodate families and longer journeys. Its power-operated, tri-fold third row allows the interior layout to be adjusted according to passenger and luggage requirements.
XPENG claims the six-seat configuration can accommodate six passengers and six 24-inch suitcases. Folding the cabin into a four-seat layout increases the available cargo capacity to 1,748 litres.
Comfort features include two zero-gravity seats, a 16-point massage function for second-row occupants and seat-cushion safety airbags. The SUV also comes with all-wheel steering, which is intended to improve manoeuvrability in urban environments and tight parking spaces. XPENG quotes a minimum turning radius of 5.4 metres.
Other technology highlights include smart parking assistance, connected cabin functions and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. The latter can supply up to 6 kW of external power, allowing users to operate compatible equipment during outdoor trips.
According to XPENG, the GX has already secured more than 3,000 orders across the Middle East.
Xpeng Grand Xplore Tour to cover all 6 GCC countries

The Grand Xplore Tour will take the XPENG GX through all six GCC countries, beginning and ending in the UAE. The programme is designed to test the SUV in different environments, from city roads and highways to extreme heat and desert conditions.
Planned activities include an extreme-heat evaluation in Kuwait and a desert driving challenge at Tal Moreeb in Liwa, Abu Dhabi. The UAE challenge will focus on the GX’s all-wheel-drive system and 800V platform in demanding terrain.
Another key activity is a planned 1,200 km journey from Dubai to Salalah in Oman without refuelling. XPENG intends to use this challenge to demonstrate the vehicle’s long-distance potential with a full fuel tank and charged battery.
The tour will also showcase the SUV’s V2L functionality during a desert camping activity. In addition, XPENG has announced plans for a Falcon Collector Edition as part of its regional programme.
What does the Xpeng GX mean for UAE car buyers?
Range-extended electric vehicles could appeal to UAE buyers who want electric driving for everyday commutes without relying entirely on public charging infrastructure for longer journeys.
The GX’s claimed 430 km electric range could cover many daily driving needs, while the petrol-powered generator provides additional flexibility for intercity travel. However, its real-world efficiency and total driving range will need to be evaluated under GCC conditions, particularly during summer and extended highway journeys.
The Grand Xplore Tour is intended to demonstrate how the technology performs across the region. XPENG has not announced official UAE pricing or delivery details as part of the tour announcement.
With its six-seat cabin, high-voltage charging system and range-extender technology, the XPENG GX offers a different approach to premium SUV mobility in the GCC. Its appeal will ultimately depend on real-world performance, local availability and pricing.
The new Xpeng GX competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 in the UAE.
