Tesla to discontinue the Model S and Model X soon - Why?
In the latest company earnings call, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, revealed that the brand will stop the production of the Model S and the Model X cars in the second quarter of this year. This decision, as per him, was long overdue as the company had earlier targeted to axe these models in 2019 itself.
Speaking regarding the reason, Elon Musk revealed that the Model S was launched in 2012, followed by the Model X. It has been nearly 15 years since these models came out, and the technology has evolved into something else. In fact, the future of Tesla is going to be completely autonomous, which neither of these models are not designed for. Elon Musk also added that “these models are of very less importance to us”.
The construction and software development of these models do not support a complete autonomous driving technology. Additionally, cars like Model 3 and Model Y offer the latest technological compatibility and are more affordable than the Model S and Model X.
While the CEO said that it is “an emotional decision”, the need of the hour is to axe these models and move on. He also added that “this is the right time to book one”, if anyone is willing to buy one of these models.
