Volkswagen ID Polo EV: What to expect?

Revealing the camouflaged near-production-ready ID Polo, Volkswagen has stepped into the entry-level EV market. The production version is set to hit the international market, including the UAE, next year.

It is based on the ID.2all concept EV, which was later renamed to ID.Polo EV. The reason behind rebranding is the iconic name. Volkswagen feels that its customers are more connected to the popular model names, including the Polo.

As a matter of fact, Polo was the highest-selling car of Volkswagen in 2024, as the brand managed to sell more than 472,000 units globally. Hence, the production version has been renamed.

In terms of design, it gets a sharp outlook with illuminated logo and low-profile tyres and bespoke alloy wheels. On the inside, the ID Polo is expected to get a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10.9-inch digital console.

Volkswagen ID Polo EV: Battery, specs, range

As per the known details, the ID Polo is based on the MEB architecture, which has been carried from the Skoda Epiq EV. This platform will allow ID Polo to support rapid charging of up to 125 kW.

According to some online reports, it will also share the battery options with the Skoda Epiq. Therefore, it is likely to be offered with a 38 kWh and a 56 kWh battery pack. The maximum range can be around 450 km or more.

Some online reports also claim that it will be offered in four power output options. The base version is likely to get a 226 bhp FWD motor, while there will be a Club Sport variant with a 286 bhp FWD setup.

Additionally, Volkswagen plans to introduce the ‘R’ moniker AWD version with up to 400 bhp power on the ID Polo.

With the release of the ID Polo EV photos, Volkswagen has also revealed that it has renamed all of its upcoming EVs. The new ones are as follows:

• ID.Cross - It will be the T-Cross electric version
• ID.Golf - Production version of the ID.3
• ID.Tiguan - Production version of the ID.4
• ID.Passat - Production version of the next ID.7

Volkswagen ID Polo EV: UAE launch and price

As per the available details, the ID Polo EV will be showcased at the Munich Motor Show this month, but in a production-ready yet camouflaged version.

However, a fully ready production car is set to be unveiled later this year. It will launch in Europe next year, and then in the other countries, including the UAE, by the end of 2026.

Volkswagen has revealed that it will be positioned below AED 123,000 in Europe.
