Volkswagen ID Polo: Everything you need to know

Design and platform

Volkswagen ID Polo

Based on VW’s new Pure Positive design language, the ID Polo shares its underpinnings with the MEB+ platform. The first look of the Polo EV looks fabulous as the new design is timeless in every possible way.

The ID Polo measures 4,053 mm in length, 1,530 mm in height, and 1,816 mm in width, thus providing it a wider and low-slung footprint. The exterior design features a set of connected LED headlights with an illuminated VW logo and a sculpted front bumper with vertical air dams.

The side profile is inspired by the first-generation Golf, which is prominent in the C-pillar design. The ID Polo features conventional door handles, while the rear door handles have been embedded in the C-pillar itself. Meanwhile, it will be offered with dual-tone alloy wheels up to 19 inches with flared wheel arches.

The rear profile is similarly simplistic as the front. A set of wraparound LED lights dominates the boot with a connected LED lightbar and an illuminated VW logo. Meanwhile, the rear bumper features the creases beautifully, with air dams present on both edges for aerodynamic efficiency.

Interior and features

The interior layout of the ID Polo is also simple and modern at the same time. It packs a light colour theme with a unique dashboard that has a massive 13-inch floating infotainment screen offering wireless connectivity like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Meanwhile, the 10-inch digital driver console offers a special retro configuration, which displays twin analogue dials reminiscent of the first-generation Golf. However, customers can change the layout as per their preference.

The ID Polo also features an all-new two-spoke steering wheel with physical button controls. In fact, VW has offered the physical buttons for the AC controls as well, making it more attractive among the pool of touch-sensitive cars.

The key features of the electric Polo include:

  • 12-way powered front seats (optional)
  • Front seats with massage and memory functions (optional)
  • 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system (optional)
  • Auto-dimming IRVM
  • Glass roof
  • Ambient lighting
  • Wireless charging
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Vehicle-to-load charging
  • E-parking brake button

Battery specs and range

Volkswagen ID Polo

Powering the ID Polo are two battery packs as follows:

  • 37 kWh NMC battery: It will be offered in two states of tune - 116 bhp and 135 bhp. The maximum claimed range of this battery is 329 km. It supports up to 90 kW DC charging, which can juice it 10-80% in 23 minutes.

  • 52 kWh NMC battery: This pack offers 211 bhp via a front-wheel drive configuration. It can deliver up to 454 km claimed range. It supports up to 105 kW DC charging, which can charge it 10-80% in 24 minutes.

Volkswagen will also debut the ID Polo GTI in the future with 226 bhp and GTI-spec bodykit and interior changes.

When will the Volkswagen ID Polo launch?

The electric Volkswagen ID Polo will go on pre-sales in Europe this month. It has been priced at 25,000 Euros (AED 107,000 approximately).

Although Volkswagen has not announced the launch timeline of the ID Polo for the UAE, we suspect that it can be introduced later this year.

Cars24 UAE says

The first-ever electric Volkswagen Polo is a head-turner for sure. It looks beautiful, and the cabin promises a spacious and fun experience. A GTI version is also on its way, and we believe the latter will be in high demand in the UAE amid the rising fuel prices.
