Volvo EX30 fire risk elevates, global recall initiated

The latest report by Reuters has led to havoc among the Volvo EX30 owners globally. As per the report, the Swedish carmaker, now owned by Geely in China, is recalling over 40,000 EX30 units over a potential fire risk.
Speaking of the details, Volvo has identified 40,323 units of the EX30 electric SUV sold globally, including the single motor and dual motor setup, which have been affected by the battery-related issue.
The affected units have been equipped with the Sunwoda high-voltage batteries, which have been manufactured by Shandong Geely Sunwoda Power Battery Co. These batteries are reported to overheat rapidly, causing fire.
The investigation of the EX30 batteries commenced when a unit caught fire while parked in the showroom in Brazil in November 2025. With the investigation completed by the brand, it has been found that the Sunwoda batteries possess the risk of overheating.
The report also hints that the total cost of replacing the affected batteries will be around 195 million USD, which makes it one of the most expensive recalls in the history of electric cars globally. The new batteries will also be manufactured by the same company.
As a precautionary measure, Volvo dealerships have been contacting the owners and recommending not charge more than 70% until the replacement is done. In fact, the procedure includes parking the vehicle away from crowded spaces, enclosed parking grounds or buildings.
As of now, Volvo UAE has not announced the recall. But we can safely assume that the concerned owners will be informed and the fix will be made free of charge.
The battery recall has hit Volvo on all grounds. The brand is known globally for its safest cars and technology innovations, which have been dented by this recall.
Cars24 UAE says
Recalls have been an essential part of the automotive world. Every car manufacturer has had one or more products recalled due to unforeseen issues. However, rectifying these issues for customer safety and satisfaction is more important, which Volvo is doing free of charge for the inconvenience caused to the EX30 owners.
