2027 Mitsubishi Pajero: What to expect?

Mitsubishi has scheduled the big reveal of the new-gen Pajero SUV on September 2, 2026. The brand is dropping subtle teasers as part of its marketing strategy. One of these latest teasers shows the underbody of the new Pajero, which confirms that it is based on a ladder-frame platform.

The brand has already confirmed that it will share its underpinnings with the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck, and the new teaser just double-checks it. Additionally, the good news is the S-AWC or Selectable All-Wheel Control, which is basically a smart 4WD system developed by Mitsubishi. The brand offers the S-AWC on the range-topping variants of the Triton pickup truck.

Speaking of the S-AWC, it features a selectable rotary knob that allows drivers to switch between RWD, 4WD, a locked central differential, and low-range with a locked differential. These options are further aided by the seven traction modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock. Mind you, these specifications are for the Triton pickup truck, and we believe that Mitsubishi will fine-tune these for the new-gen Pajero.

With the new teaser, the brand has also revealed that the new Pajero will focus on safe and secure driving across a wide range of terrain and road conditions. Since it will be a cross-country SUV, the suspension will also be fine-tuned for comfort, agility, and off-road performance.

Online rumours hint that the new Pajero will come equipped with a Triton-sourced 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This unit will produce around 204 bhp and 470 Nm (expected), and it will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, certain markets will also get a petrol engine, of which the GCC could be one.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed that it will sell the next-generation Pajero as Montero in certain markets. The brand has already showcased the production prototype to select customers and dealers in Japan. The SUV will be completely revealed on September 2, and we believe that it will launch in the UAE and GCC markets by mid-2027.
