Dubai Police have added the Yangwang U8 to their luxury patrol fleet, bringing a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV to the streets of the emirate. Introduced in partnership with Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, the vehicle was unveiled at WETEX 2026 in Dubai.
The new addition combines advanced hybrid technology, off-road capability and distinctive luxury styling. It will support tourist patrol operations at prominent destinations, including Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).
Yangwang U8 price and availability
The Yangwang U8 Arabian Edition is available in the UAE through Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, with a listed retail price of AED 659,900. However, Dubai Police have not announced the acquisition cost of their patrol vehicle or confirmed whether it features any mechanical modifications compared with the retail model.
The standard Arabian Edition produces 1,180 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds. It also offers an electric driving range of approximately 112km and a claimed combined range of up to 800km under the WLTC testing cycle.
The Yangwang U8's addition expands Dubai Police's luxury patrol fleet with a vehicle that combines hybrid performance, off-road capability and emergency flotation technology. Its deployment at major tourist destinations further highlights the emirate's distinctive approach to public engagement through high-profile vehicles.
Yangwang U8 engine and performance
The Yangwang U8 delivers strong performance despite its large size. Its hybrid powertrain combines petrol and electric power to provide rapid acceleration and all-wheel-drive capability.
Here are the key performance figures of the Yangwang U8:
| Specification | Yangwang U8 |
| Powertrain | 2.0-litre turbo engine + 4 electric motors |
| Combined power | 1,180 hp |
| Combined torque | 1,280 Nm |
| Drivetrain | All-wheel drive |
| Acceleration | 3.6 seconds |
| Top speed | 200km/h |
| Battery capacity | 49.05kWh |
| Electric range | Approximately 112km (WLTC) |
| Combined driving range | Up to 800 km (WLTC) |
The retail Arabian Edition produces 1,180 hp, while Dubai Police have reported an output of 1,197 hp for their patrol vehicle. The SUV's four electric motors also support specialised driving functions, including its tank-turn capability and improved traction across different surfaces.
Emergency flotation and advanced off-road technology
One of the Yangwang U8's most unusual features is its emergency flotation system. The technology is designed to help occupants escape certain dangerous situations involving water, including some flooding emergencies.
According to the manufacturer, the SUV can remain afloat and manoeuvre through water for up to 30 minutes at approximately 3km/h under specified conditions. The feature is intended for emergencies rather than regular water driving.
The U8 also features a Vehicle Origin Turn function, commonly known as a tank turn. By controlling the four electric motors independently, the SUV can rotate 360 degrees on the spot, helping it manoeuvre in confined spaces.
Its Yunnan-P hydraulic body control system adjusts the suspension to improve ground clearance and manage body movement over uneven terrain. Ground clearance can increase from 285mm to 310mm in its highest suspension setting.
These technologies add to the vehicle's versatility, making it suitable for a range of driving conditions beyond paved city roads.
Why do Dubai Police use luxury patrol cars?
Dubai Police's luxury patrol fleet serves a purpose beyond showcasing high-performance vehicles. The cars are deployed at popular tourist destinations and prominent public areas, allowing residents and visitors to interact with police officers and learn more about the services they provide.
The Yangwang U8 will support tourist patrol operations at locations such as Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and JBR.
According to Dubai Police, the addition is intended to strengthen police visibility and public engagement at major attractions. Its distinctive design and advanced technology can also help attract attention while providing officers with a platform for interacting with tourists.
The partnership with Al-Futtaim Automotive Group highlights the role of private-sector collaboration in expanding the force's fleet and introducing newer automotive technologies.
A growing collection of luxury patrol cars
Dubai Police have developed an internationally recognised collection of luxury and performance vehicles, including models from brands such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti and Aston Martin.
The Yangwang U8 brings a different approach to the fleet. Rather than relying solely on a conventional petrol engine, it combines a plug-in hybrid powertrain with four-motor all-wheel drive and specialised off-road systems.
Its addition also reflects the growing presence of Chinese automotive manufacturers in the UAE's premium vehicle market. Brands such as BYD and its luxury marque Yangwang are introducing vehicles that compete through advanced technology, performance and distinctive features.
The U8's presence in the Dubai Police fleet provides further visibility for the brand while supporting the emirate's approach to tourist policing and community engagement.
