What to expect from the new-gen 2027 Hyundai i20?

Hyundai has unveiled the official images of the fourth-generation i20, which will initially debut in the Brazilian market. And trust us, these images are not just radical but polarising as per the design standards.
Why do we say so? It is because the new-gen i20 has undergone a massive, polarising design change. While the silhouette and size of the new-gen i20 look identical to the current model, the styling is what concerns us.

The front fascia, which is probably the most “conventional” looking part, gets a new stretched-out, wider stance with a wide LED daytime running light band, new dual-pod LED headlamps, and a new bumper with the grille now positioned on the lower half.

Moving to the side, things start to get frisky. The big glass area looks nice, and so do the new dual-tone alloy wheels and the retractable door handles. However, the rear quarter design is a bit weird, and it looks inspired by Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup. The i20, despite being an urban car, gets a body kit with wheel arches and side skirts.
But as you move to the back, that’s where the new-gen i20 looks absurd, at least immediately, at first glance. The huge raked windshield is mated to a weird-looking LED light band that connects the two triangular LED taillights. There is an integrated spoiler, though, which makes it a bit bearable, but the huge black lower bumper makes it a bit gimmicky.

Things do not just end here. There are a few interior shots as well that showcase the new dashboard design. It now gets a big curved connected display, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a light-coloured interior theme, and a new vertical central dashboard design.
The centre of the dashboard now features a portrait-like AC control panel, which is surrounded by the vertical central AC vents. This is a first for any Hyundai, and it surely looks modern. The good thing is that we can notice the physical control buttons, which means Hyundai will keep on offering the buttons for basic controls.

The leaked images also show the door panels, which are again first for a Hyundai as these get the new oval-shaped interior door handles, quilted door pads, and big storage spaces. Although we are unsure about the light-themed cabin, which will be prone to getting dirty, especially in countries like the UAE.
What will power the new-gen 2027 Hyundai i20?
The new-gen Hyundai i20 is likely to get powered by the current engine options. These include the 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is mainly meant for the base and mid-spec variants, and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo TGDI engine, which is meant for the range-topping trims.
When will the new-gen Hyundai i20 launch?
The new-generation i20 is expected to debut in September 2026 in Brazil. It will be later introduced in other countries in a planned manner. We can expect the i20 to get a major update in the Middle East by mid-2027.
Cars24 UAE says
The next-gen Hyundai i20 is around the corner of an official unveiling. It will not only bring the new design updates, but it will also grow in size and offer new features that would be first-in-segment. We expect the new i20 to land in the UAE next year.
