Hyundai has been working on the next-generation Kona crossover-SUV for a long time. The latest spy shot image of the upcoming new-generation Kona has leaked online ahead of its global debut, which is slated for later this year.

What to expect from the 2027 Hyundai Kona?

As visible in the spy image, the new-generation Kona has undergone a complete design makeover. It not only looks bigger than the current model, but its exterior design has also been radically revamped.

While the current Kona features a curvy design, including curvy panels and fluidic lighting elements, the upcoming generation of the Kona takes its design inspiration from Hyundai’s Crater Concept. The SUV looks more rugged than ever before, thanks to its clamshell bonnet design, pixelated LED lighting that is inspired by the IONIQ models, flared wheel arches, and a boxy overall profile with an upright stance.

Sadly, this is the only spy shot available of the production-spec model. However, we can safely say that the interior design of the new Kona will be heavily inspired by the new-generation IONIQ 3, which shall include a premium cabin, high-quality materials, clean lines with spacious interiors, and features like the Pleos infotainment system, augmented reality head-up display, a new three-spoke steering wheel, etc.

Speaking of the specifications, the new-generation Kona will be offered with various powertrains in the global market, similar to the current model. For example, the current generation model of Kona in the UAE comes with a 1.6-litre petrol, hybrid, and EV versions. We suspect that the same powertrains could be offered on the next-generation Kona, but with a more efficient setup and smooth engine calibration.

When will the new-generation Hyundai Kona launch?

As per online reports, the next-generation Kona is scheduled to launch in the global market next year. While there is no official date confirmation from the brand yet, we anticipate that it could be launched in the UAE by mid-2027. With a redesigned exterior and interior, and possibly new powertrains, the new-generation Kona will be positioned higher than the current model.

As far as the Kona is concerned in the GCC market, Hyundai launched it in 2018 in collaboration with the official retailer Jum Al Majid Est. The compact crossover gained traction in the GCC market within the first few years of launch, mainly because of its comfortable driving experience, compact design and smooth engine performance.
