Toyota has been developing the next-generation Fortuner for a long time. The upcoming Fortuner test mules have been spotted during test runs across the globe. However, the latest spy shots have now surfaced from Thailand, revealing the front design details of the new-generation Fortuner.
2027 Toyota Fortuner: Front design details

The latest test mule of the next-generation Fortuner was spotted in Thailand. The front spy shots reveal that the new-generation Fortuner will undergo a substantial styling update.
As visible in the spy shot, the fascia of the test car is equipped with the new LED headlights, a new, wider grille, a redesigned front bumper with flanked foglight housings, and a muscular overall appearance.
While the test mule is camouflaged extensively, we can see the design similarity with the new-gen Toyota models like the RAV4 Hybrid and the Innova Hycross MPV. Meanwhile, the front windshield has the ADAS safety module mounted behind the interior rear-view mirror, confirming that it will get the autonomous safety features.
The side profile has some similarities with the current Fortuner. For example, the roofline is inspired by the current Fortuner, while the side body panels and doors feature a clean design. The test car is using the new 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, which we suspect will be offered on the lower trims. The higher trims like the GR Sport and Legender will likely get the new 18-inch alloy wheels.
The previous spy shots revealed the same car being tested. Those images showcased the set of new, sharp LED taillights and a redesigned boot. However, the three-box design and the typical SUV stance will persist on the new Fortuner as well.
What else will change on the 2027 Toyota Fortuner?
As far as the technical changes are concerned, the new-generation Fortuner is likely to use the IMV platform from the current model, or the TNGA-F platform from the new-generation Hilux. The latter has recently been launched in the UAE, and the TNGA-F ladder-frame chassis offers improved structural stability and rugged off-road performance, along with ADAS calibration.
Apart from the styling, the cabin will also take a big step forward in terms of upgrades. We suspect that a new dashboard with a large central infotainment screen, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a new digital driver display, and new seats will be fitted to the new Fortuner.
The cabin design is likely to take inspiration from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250 and the new-generation Hilux. With that said, features like wireless charging, ventilated and electric seats, an electric tailgate, off-road modes, a 360-degree camera, traction and terrain modes, etc, will also be offered on the new Fortuner.
Same powerful engine and 4x4 performance
Powering the new-generation Fortuner are likely to be the current engine options. These will include the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine that makes 204 bhp and 500 Nm with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 164 bhp and 245 Nm.
Both powertrains will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox option. The 4x2 drivetrain will be offered on the low-end and mid-range trims, while the top-spec trims will feature the 4x4 as standard.
When will it launch in the UAE?
Currently, Toyota has not revealed the launch timeline for the new-generation Fortuner. We suspect that the global reveal will likely take place by the third quarter of 2027. It will eventually be introduced in the Middle East, most probably by the end of next year.
