Lexus LFA successor: What to expect?

Spotted recently during a road test run in California, what appears to be the successor model of the LFA sports car. While some online publications are claiming it to be a different car, some hint at the upcoming LFR model, which is going to be the next flagship Lexus sports car worldwide.
Speaking of the spotted test car, it is heavily camouflaged but shows a completely new platform. Earlier, when the first spy shots of the same car surfaced online from Nurburgring, it was anticipated to be above the Lexus RC F.
The low-slung design is clearly visible, and this “road version” seems not to be using the big wing spoiler like the earlier test car. Moreover, it will be a traditional Lexus in design evolution, but it is expected to bear a new fascia, which will pave the way for the upcoming Lexus cars.

Interestingly, it has been spotted along with a Mercedes-Benz GT63 e-Performance, which is also said to become its direct rival. How? Well, this unnamed Lexus car will be a similar layout as the GT63, which means a front-engined and rear-wheel drive configuration.
More than 3 years ago, Lexus showcased the world its GR GT3 concept car, which is supposed to be this car in production form.
It is likely going to feature a brand new 4.0-litre, V8, twin-turbo, self-charging hybrid engine. As the Mercedes GT63 is being used as a benchmark, we suspect 800 bhp of power from its engine.

Is it the Lexus LFR?
While the details currently are scarce, online rumours are hinting that this is the upcoming Lexus LFR. If so, it will only become a new brand, as the Mercedes GT63 benchmark is totally different from calling it a LFA successor.
Moreover, the LFA was too steeply priced, which we think this car will not be, at least not as much as the LFA. Also, the previously spotted test car had an aero kit, including the big wing spoiler, which this car doesn't have. This means that there will possibly be two variants: a road-legal and a track-focused.
This new sports car is expected to hit the production line by Q3/Q4 of 2025. This means it will be globally revealed in the coming months.
UAE will surely witness the launch of this upcoming LFA rival, but not before Q1 of 2026.
Our verdict
While the iconic LFA is nearly irreplaceable, the upcoming sports car from the Japanese luxury carmaker might just do it right. The stance, the aggressiveness, and the technical layout all look right for it to become the successor to the LFA. But, the question is, will it be able to perform similarly to the LFA? Well, we guess only time will tell us that.
