Autopilot safety feature removed from Tesla Model Y and Model 3

Elon Musk’s latest announcement is nothing short of bad news for Tesla lovers. The US-based EV manufacturer has announced that the entry-level Model Y and Model 3 cars will not come equipped with the Autopilot FSD safety system as standard in the US market.
The EV maker has removed the lane-keeping assist feature, which it called Autosteer FSD. The function of this feature is to detect the marked lanes and keep the vehicle in the centre of the lane by auto-steering.
However, to get this system, customers will now have to pay a monthly subscription of USD 99 (AED 363.58). Moreover, customers can also pay a one-time fee of USD 8,000 (AED 29,380) to opt for the lane-keeping assist or Autosteer safety feature while buying the car. Mind you, these rates are as of today's foreign exchange rates conversion.
Not just that, but the brand’s CEO also announced that this fee structure will increase in the future as Tesla is working on enhanced FSD Autopilot features, which will control the car completely while the driver can operate their phones or even sleep. With the improvement in autonomous safety, the prices will also increase.
With the Autosteer function removed, the Model Y and Model 3 still come equipped with the Traffic-Aware Cruise Control in the US. Meanwhile, the higher models like the Model X and Model S come equipped with the Autopilot as standard on the Luxe variants, while it remains an option for the Cybertruck AWD.
What about the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 on sale in the UAE?
The Tesla Model Y and Model 3 cars come equipped with the Autopilot safety feature in the UAE. The brand is expected to continue offering the autonomous safety features for the Middle East customers as it is.
Cars24 UAE says
The removal of the Autopilot safety feature is certainly not a positive step by Tesla, especially considering that the brand is facing poor sales and stiff competition from the Chinese EV manufacturers.
