Tesla has introduced the six-seater version of the Model Y L Premium electric SUV in the UAE, starting at AED 224,990 (excluding VAT). The new long-wheelbase Tesla Model Y L Premium focuses on more cabin comfort as it offers three-row seating as standard.
Tesla Model Y L Premium: More space and more comfort
The new Model Y L Premium is based on the standard Model Y’s platform. However, Tesla claims that the chassis has been modified to create more interior space and to accommodate a six-seater layout.
To achieve this, the brand has increased the overall length of the car by 179 mm. Meanwhile, its wheelbase has been increased by 150 mm. Tesla has also reworked the roofline, which has added 70 mm of headroom for the second-row passengers.
The redesigned bodywork has also increased the shoulder room for the rear passengers by 20 mm, which also makes ingress and egress easy for the third-row passengers. Moreover, the second row now offers captain seats with 8-way power adjustment, ventilation, heating, powered armrests, and a one-touch folding option. The second-row passengers also get separate air conditioning vents and climate control.
Moving to the back, the cargo space has also gone up. With the third row seats folded down, the Tesla Model Y L Premium offers a huge cargo space of up to 2,539 litres, which gets reduced to 1,076 litres with the third row folded down, and 420 litres with all rows up. Additionally, the front trunk, or frunk space, is 116 litres.
Tesla Model Y L Premium: New features added
With the extended wheelbase, Tesla has not only added more space, but more features as well. The front seats on the Model Y L Premium now pack thigh extenders, neck cushions, and adjustable headrests.
Meanwhile, the central 16-inch infotainment offers a high-res display and controls every feature of the car. The second-row passengers also get an 8-inch touchscreen to operate the climate control, seat adjustment, and comfort controls.
The acoustic glass has been retained on the Model Y L Premium, along with the full-size panoramic glass roof, a 50W wireless charger with ventilation, a 19-speaker premium sound system, fast charger USB points for the third-row passengers, ambient lights, and more.
Not just cabin comfort features, Tesla has also added new safety features to the Model Y L Premium. It gets curtain airbags for the first- and second- row passengers, and dedicated third-row airbags as well. Additionally, Tesla has reinforced the floor beams and integrated a new die-cast rear underbody portion that offers improved structural rigidity, along with reduced side impact.
The Model Y L Premium continues to offer Tesla’s trademark Autosteer, adaptive cruise control, and auto emergency braking. Buyers can also opt for the full automated driving system by paying extra. However, the latter depends on availability and regional approval.
Battery, range, and performance
Powering the new Tesla Model Y L Premium is the 88.2 kWh NMC battery. It supplies power to the dual-motor all-wheel drive setup that offers 500 bhp of peak power output.
Tesla claims it can deliver up to 681 km of range, and it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds while offering a top speed of up to 201 km. The new Model Y L Premium also supports Tesla Superchargers that can add 288 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging. Tesla has 220 Superchargers installed in the Middle East that buyers can use for free.
