Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the third generation of its entry-level SUV, the GLA. The 2027 Mercedes GLA has broken cover as an EV, but it will be launched with a mild-hybrid engine next year. It is based on the MMA platform (800V), and it will be offered with two battery options in the global market.

2027 Mercedes GLA EV: Battery specs, range & performance

The new-gen GLA EV will be offered with two battery options and three trims: 250, 250+, and 350. These variants will offer the following specifications and performance figures:

• GLA 250 (base variant): 58 kWh LFP battery, 447 km range, 224 bhp/335 Nm, rear-wheel drive motor
   
• GLA 250+ (mid variant): 85 kWh NMC battery, 657 km range, 272 bhp/335 Nm, rear-wheel drive motor
   
• GLA 350 (top variant): 85 kWh NMC battery, 657 km range, 354 bhp/515 Nm, all-wheel drive dual motors, 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, 210 km/h of top speed

Mind you, all variants of the GLA EV support DC charging of up to 320 kW. It can be charged with 270 km of range in 10 minutes of charging. The AC charging support is 22 kW.

Mercedes will also launch a mild-hybrid ICE version of the new GLA in 2027. It will be an all-wheel drive model, powered by a new ‘M 252’ 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It will get a 48V mild-hybrid engine paired to an 8-speed DCT automatic transmission.

Exterior details

The new GLA EV boasts an all-new exterior design. The front fascia features a protruding nose design that is accentuated with the sleek LED headlights with tri-star design daytime running lights and the Digital Light technology.

The front bumper gets a sculpted design with a big illuminated grille and vertical air dams on the lower bumper. Mercedes has used gloss black cladding on the GLA EV to give it a premium look.

The overall profile of the new-generation GLA EV is slightly different from the outgoing version. On the side, it features a sporty profile with an upswept shoulder line, retractable door handles, a roof-integrated spoiler, and machine-cut alloys ranging from 18 inches to 22 inches.

The biggest change is on the rear, where it gets a new set of C-shaped LED taillights with the tri-star logo, a new boot with an uplifted design, and a sporty bumper.

The dimensions of the new-gen GLA EV are as follows:

• Length - 4,565 mm
• Width - 1,873 mm
• Height - 1,604 mm
• Wheelbase - 2,790 mm
• Boot space - 410 litres
• Frunk space - 107 litres

Interior, features & safety

The cabin design of the new GLA EV takes inspiration from the CLA EV. It features the optional Superscreen full-width screen on the dashboard, which boasts a 10.25-inch driver screen, a 14-inch infotainment screen, and a 14-inch front passenger screen.

The new three-spoke steering wheel gets physical buttons, and so does the centre console, but the AC controls are now operated from the infotainment screen. Meanwhile, it gets an all-black theme with silver highlights and contrasting elements.

Depending on the variant, the new GLA EV will be offered with leather or fabric upholstery. The new features include a 16-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, a panoramic sunroof, 64-bit custom ambient LED lighting, a 360-degree camera, and a new ‘Transparent Bonnet’ view.

The range-topping version gets the autonomous safety assist features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, high-beam assist, rear-cross traffic alert, etc.

When will the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLA EV launch?

The new-generation Mercedes GLA EV will be available in the international market by November 2026. We expect it to arrive in the UAE by next year.
