2026 Toyota Corolla facelift details explained
Not long ago, Toyota showcased its next-generation Corolla concept model at the Japan Mobility Expo. While the new-generation car will be a complete revolution for the Corolla nampelate globally, Toyota has updated the Chinese-spec model.
Mind you, Toyota works with FAW or First Auto Works in China, and sells its portfolio with Chinese specifications. Showcased at the Guangzhou Show earlier this week, the new Corolla facelift features the trademark ‘Hammer-head’ front fascia design by Toyota.
It gets the new L-shaped LED DRLs and LED projector headlights, along with a new bumper and redesigned bonnet with a more fluidic and sharp design. Meanwhile, the 17-inch alloy wheels have also been updated with a more upmarket shape. At the rear, the connected LED light strip now features a blacked-out look for a sportier appeal.
Meanwhile, the interior has undergone some serious updates. For example, it now features a new gearshift lever, a new centre console, a bigger 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless connectivity, and a new 8.8-inch digital instrument console. The sad part is that the AC control physical buttons have been replaced by touch-based controls, which are less feasible to use on the go.
Toyota has also increased its wheelbase by 50 mm, as compared to the UAE-spec Corolla. This has led to better legroom for the rear passengers. Meanwhile, the seats have also been upgraded with more cushioning and better support.
Engine spec changes
Toyota has also revised the engine options on the Chinese-spec Corolla. The sedan now features an all-new 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that offers 171 PS of peak power and gets a FWD CVT drivetrain. Meanwhile, there is also a new 1.8-litre Hybrid engine that offers 98 PS of peak power, and has a claimed fuel economy of 4.31 litres/100 km, which further translates to a range of up to 1,041 km.
Will it launch in the UAE?
Ironically, the Chinese-spec models are mostly tailored for the Chinese customers only. Therefore, the Toyota-FAW Corolla facelift is unlikely to launch in any global market, including the UAE.
But the good news is that the next-gen Corolla is coming soon. It will debut by late 2026 globally, and it is bound to replace the current-gen Corolla in the UAE by mid-2027.
