2026 Toyota Hilux ANCAP rating details

The Hilux pickup truck has always been a sturdy and strong vehicle in its segment. However, with the launch of the 2026 Hilux, Toyota has upgraded its safety features, which have been recently tested by the Australian NCAP testing agency.

Considered as one of the strict vehicle crash tests, the Australian New Car Assessment Program or ANCAP has honoured a 5-star rating to the new Hilux. The pickup truck tested was rewarded with 33.96 points out of 40 in adult occupant safety, while it scored 44/49 points in child occupant safety.

Speaking of the details, the new pickup truck scored ‘good’ protection for the chest, head, neck, and other critical body parts of the driver and the front passenger in the frontal offset test.

A similar result was announced for the full-width frontal impact test, where the new Hilux was found to offer good protection for the head, chest, and other critical parts of the driver and the passenger.

Meanwhile, it offered ‘good’ head protection for both the driver and the front passenger in the side impact test. A similar result offering ‘good’ protection was found for the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pole impact tests.

ANCAP also tested the Hilux with 10-year-old and 6-year-old child dummies. The new Hilux offered good protection for both child dummies. Additionally, the bonnet and windshield have been rated to offer ‘good’ pedestrian protection, but the same was not found for the pillars.

Mind you, these results are valid for the Australian and New Zealand markets only, and the Rugged X variant is yet to be tested.

What are the safety features of the 2026 Toyota Hilux?

Although the new-gen Hilux is based on the previous model, it does feature new design bits and new safety features that make it safer than ever before. While Toyota has not claimed any structural rigidity increment claims, the new Hilux does come with the Toyota Sense 2.0 autonomous safety assist features. These are as follows:
