Land Rover has announced that it will cease production of the Discovery Sport model later this year. The Discovery Sport is one of the most affordable Land Rover cars in the world, and it will be axed for new-generation models.

Why will Land Rover Discovery Sport be discontinued?

As per the brand, the Discovery Sport will be axed by December 2026. The reason behind this is its lifecycle end. The brand says that it is transitioning its Halewood (United Kingdom) factory into a modern production facility to accommodate the next-generation Land Rover cars like the upcoming Range Rover GT.

Therefore, the Discovery Sport will be shunted off the lineup later this year. Meanwhile, it will be available in the global market until the stock lasts. Mind you, the Discovery Sport is one of Land Rover's most affordable SUVs. It is priced from AED 270,000 in the UAE, and it is positioned above the Evoque.

What is next for Land Rover?

A few days ago, Land Rover’s sub-brand Range Rover revealed a new model called GT. The GT is essentially a coupe-SUV, and it sits close to the ground, while offering a wagon-like design.

The brand says that the production-spec GT model will be based on the new EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) platform. It will be initially launched in a fully electric avatar, while a hybrid version is slated to be introduced in the future.

The upcoming Range Rover GT is planned to be manufactured at the Halewood-based production facility, along with the new Range Rover Electric, which is also scheduled to be revealed by the end of this year.
