What is new on the 2026 Toyota Hilux?

The new-gen Hilux is based on the TNGA-F platform, which is already in use on the current model. However, it has been modified and altered for better performance and more durability.

As per the official details, the new model is based on the current model, but it features a redesigned front, rear, and side profile.

The front fascia gets new C-shaped LED lights, a new squared-off grille, and a new bumper. If looked closely, this design mimics the recently launched Toyota RAV4 Hybrid as well.

Meanwhile, the rear-end is now equipped with new LED taillights, a new tailgate with Toyota lettering, and a new rugged bumper. The side profile gets the same middle section as the current model, but the alloy wheels and the ORVMs are new.

A few online reports are hinting at similar dimensions as the current model. However, the dimensional details will be revealed in the future by Toyota. It also gets the fender flares on the SR5 variant for an enhanced visual appeal.

New interiors and features

While the amount of cabin space is unaltered, the new Hilux gets an all-new interior theme and design. The new dashboard is identical to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, as it gets the twin 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment and the instrument consoles.

The steering wheel is also similar to the Prado, while the new centre console features the gearshift knob, electronic parking brake, 4x4 mode options, traction control, and other operational features.

The seats have also been improved to offer more comfort, especially for the rear passengers on the dual-cab variants. Meanwhile, the safety features include the level 2 ADAS suite, along with multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, and more.

In terms of convenience features, it gets wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, dual-zone AC, and more.

Engine specs of the 2026 Toyota Hilux

Powering the new-gen Hilux is the same engine option as the current model. It continues to be offered with a 2.8-litre turbo diesel. However, this engine gets a 48V hybrid motor on the dual-cab variants, which helps in increasing low-speed performance and fuel economy. This technology is called ‘V-Active’.

This engine will be offered with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options globally. Meanwhile, the 2.4- and 2.7-litre diesel and petrol engines have been axed due to the latest emission norms.

Toyota also plans to add a new hydrogen fuel cell 2.8-litre diesel engine option to the Hilux in the future. Additionally, a GR Sport variant is expected to be offered in the future with more power and torque to compete with the Ford Ranger.

Toyota Hilux BEV coming soon

Along with the diesel engine, the new Hilux will be offered in an all-electric powertrain. This will be the first time that the Hilux will get an EV structure.

The revealed prototype gets a new 59.2 kWh battery pack that has been mounted under the floor. It is paired with twin electric motors, each mounted on individual axles.

The new eAxle will offer a real-world cruising range of 300 km or more, depending on the version. This battery pack is rated to produce 193 bhp of peak power.

When will the new Toyota Hilux launch in the UAE?

Toyota will offer the new Hilux in 4x2 and 4x4 variants with single- and dual-cab versions. It will be available by this year’s end in Thailand and Australia in WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rouge, and Rugged X variants.
