Toyota has released the latest set of photos of its upcoming Land Cruiser FJ60-based concept SUV. The brand is going to call it Turbo Trail Cruiser, and it brings back all memories of the proper 1980s SUV.
The Turbo Trail Cruiser has been designed for retro fanatics as it features FJ60's styling, but it is completely unchanged. The only notable difference is the raised suspension, which has been lifted by 1.5 inches and the new 35-inch AT off-road tyres.
Following the exterior design, the cabin also retains the same old-school design with its retro charm and utilitarian yet comfortable experience. It gets the analogue dials and the three-spoke steering wheel to match its retro appeal. However, the brand has added a floating touchscreen with wireless connectivity to give it a touch of modernity.
Powering this beautiful concept SUV is the Toyota Tundra-sourced 3.6-litre, V6 turbo petrol engine that offers 389 bhp and 650 Nm of peak power and torque. Toyota has mated it to a 5-speed manual transmission to keep the fun of driving intact.
However, the new engine was not simply a swap; but it required a few modifications. The Toyota Motorsports Garage engineers have reshaped the mounts to hold the new engine and gearbox, while the adapter lane has been redesigned for easy mating of the new drivetrain.
Will it launch in the UAE?
No. Toyota has no plans to launch this special one-off Land Cruiser. However, the brand is going to launch the ‘baby’ Land Cruiser FJ in the UAE next year. The Land Cruiser FJ was recently unveiled globally with a 4X4 drivetrain and a 2.7-litre petrol engine.
