BYD Yangwang U8L roof bears a palm tree and still survives

In a weird, rather viral safety stunt, BYD engineers decided to drop a massive palm tree on the full-size moonroof of the Yangwang U8L Hybrid SUV. The main target was not only to test the strength and capabilities of the SUV to bear an extreme impact, but also to generate marketing awareness for the vehicle, which is bound to be officially launched in the UAE next year.

So, what did happen? Well, the car not only survived the impact on the roof, but it also drove off like nothing had happened. The eyebrow-raising marketing video campaign shows a massive palm tree getting dropped, not once, not twice, but three times on the roof, to ensure that the car actually goes through the pain.

Speaking of the details, the brand noted a maximum impact energy of up to 50.4 kilojoules. This equates to a massive jaw-dropping 54,000 Nm of force, which is more than enough to shatter any normal car.

However, the SUV not only bravely took this impact, but its massive glass area also remained unbothered. Now this is very impressive, considering that the glass shattering was the first thing that should have happened as per the physics law, but the SUV simply defied these laws.

While our eyes could not bear the pain of a beautiful vehicle undergoing such a deliberate impact, it certainly has all of our respect due to its structural rigidity. Aside from all modern safety bells and whistles like airbags, ADAS, Lidar, etc, the Yangwang U8L is a strong SUV.
BYD Yanagwang U8L is coming to the UAE next year
While buyers can still find ways through the third-party dealerships to purchase the new U8L Hybrid in the UAE, BYD has announced that the Yangwang will be officially launching in the Middle East early next year. This means that the U8L Hybrid will be available for all prospective buyers who are in awe of the safety and water swimming capabilities of the U8L.
What powers the BYD Yangwang U8L?
The BYD Yangwang U8L is a plug-in hybrid SUV that has a complex technical setup. It uses a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine to power all four wheels, which also uses the additional power from the quad electric motors present on the wheels. The combined output stands at 1,184 bhp and 1,280 Nm of power and torque, respectively. Moreover, with the hybrid technology, it can deliver a range of up to 1,160 km (CLTC-claimed).
BYD Yangwang U8L water floating capacity
The Yangwang U8L Hybrid is the world’s first-ever production SUV that can float on the water in case of an emergency. While this feature has been advertised as a USP, it is rather a safety feature as the SUV can float up to 30 minutes in water, and it can also drive at 3 km/h through the water to get its passengers to a safer place.
Cars24 UAE says
The upcoming BYD Yangwang U8L is going to be a groundbreaking product in the Middle East. Its capabilities are already making news worldwide, and the big, boxy SUV promises to take on the luxury rivals like the Range Rover SV, which will make it an interesting product amongst the luxury SUVs in the UAE when it gets launched early next year.
