Everything we know so far about the BMW M3 Electric

Not long ago, BMW revealed that it is working on an all-new M3, which will be offered in various engines, including hybrid, petrol, and a pure electric version. The latter has now leaked online, showing the front fascia and design details.
The upcoming M3 Electric, which is rumoured to be called iM3, is going to be based on the newly launched BMW i3 electric sedan. However, it will feature composite fibre bodywork and extensive frame updates to make it lighter and more agile.
The leaked photo of a prototype shows that the M3 Electric will follow the i3’s Neue Klasse design with a streamlined ‘kidney grille’ design and the new diagonal LED lights. The M3 EV is likely to sit lower than the i3, and it will feature a sporty body kit, including bumpers with diffusers, an active aero package, bigger and lightweight wheels, and flared wheel arches.
Meanwhile, its cabin is also likely to follow a similar trail of updates, including the race-inspired seats, Alcantara fabric, sustainable materials, and M-spec steering wheel, along with M badges all around.
Online reports have already leaked their power and specs, which include a new quad-motor setup, offering in excess of 1,000bhp of peak power output. The M3 Electric will be an all-wheel drive offering.
It could be powered by the 100kWh battery pack sourced from the new BMW i3 itself, but the powerful quad-motor setup and improved battery management system will offer an exhilarating experience.
It will also come equipped with BMW’s new ‘Heart of Joy’ computing system that smartly manages the battery performance, a new-generation iDrive infotainment management system, and AI-assisted features.
BMW will also launch the petrol-powered next-gen M3, but it will sit on a completely different platform to meet the strict emission standards like Euro 7. Additionally, the plug-in hybrid engine will use the current 3.0-litre inline-six motor to meet the new emission standards.
BMW will also introduce a station wagon version of the upcoming M3, called the Touring variant.
When will the new-gen BMW M3 Electric launch?
As far as the launch is concerned, the new M3 EV is expected to hit the production line early next year. It will be subsequently launched in the priority markets, including Europe, the US, and the UAE, by the second half of 2027.
Cars24 UAE says
The upcoming generation of the BMW M3 Electric will not only become the first-ever M3 to get electrified, but it will also offer a substantial upgrade in performance and design. We expect the new M3 to become an instant hit in the Middle East, as it is already a popular sports car in the region.
