BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme: What is special about it?

BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme

Previous month, BYD’s sub-brand Yangwang was in the news for making the fastest-ever battery-powered supercar, which broke the Rimac Nevera’s record by reaching 472.41 km/h. However, the brand did not settle with it, and it made a more powerful and quicker version of the Ynagwang U9 Track Edition, called the U9 Xtreme.

The fun fact is that it is a production car, and it is limited to 30 units globally. Speaking of its speciality, the U9 Xtreme has now touched 496.22 km/h of top speed at the same Automotive Testing Papenburg (Germany) track where the U9 Track Edition set the previous record.

With that said, the U9 Xtreme has not only broken the previous world record of Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which reached 490.5 km/h in 2019, but it has also become the world’s first production car to hit 300 mph.

BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme: Performance and specifications

The U9 Xtreme uses the ultra-powerful 1,200V architecture, unlike the regular 800V, which allows it to offer a discharge rate of 30C, making the quad electric motors spin by up to 30,000 rpm.

The combined power output of this, when mated to the lithium phosphate Blade battery, is 2,977 bhp. Moreover, it gets an air suspension that can detect the speed bumps and the road ahead, and even make the car jump to avoid them.

BYD has coupled with the GitiSport to make the special e-GTR2 Pro semi-slick tyres that can hold the car above speeds of 480 km/h. Braking duty is done by the titanium calipers and the carbon-ceramic rotors.

BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme: UAE launch and availability

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is limited to 30 units only. Going by the craze for EVs in China, we suspect that it will not make it to the UAE. However, a private import might change this assumption of ours.

Our verdict

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is not just the fastest car in the world, but it is a testament to the Chinese EV engineering and sheer brilliance of making products that can beat world-class brands like Bugatti.
