What is the Tesla Model 3 indicator stalk update?

Tesla Model 3

When Tesla introduced the Model 3 two years ago, it divided opinions on its touch-based turn indicator controls that were positioned on the steering wheel. However, it looks like the US-based EV maker has finally decided to veer away from the touch indicator controls for the Chinese market.

After strong feedback from the Chinese customers regarding the functional issues of the touch-based indicator controls, Tesla has decided to update the Model 3 with the physical indicator stalk - just like the regular cars. This decision appears to have surfaced after strong opinions from users.

So, what about the existing customers? Worry not, as Tesla will also roll out a new retrofit kit that will allow the steering column upgrade and add the physical stalk in the old cars that only have the touch-based controls for the indicators.

Tesla serious about the Chinese market?

While Tesla EVs are globally recognised for their cutting-edge technology and battery performance, it is the Chinese EV market that holds the top position in the emerging EV markets globally.

With a lot of local players like BYD, Bongfeng, Xiaomi, etc, Tesla has slowly started to fade in the increasing pool of new EVs that offer more at less price.

In order to stay relevant and keep its throne as the world’s best EV maker, Tesla has been proactively working for the Chinese customers and market needs.

The brand has also launched the Model Y L 6-seater specifically for China, which is another sign that China holds the top-spot for Tesla as of now.

What about the UAE Tesla customers?

As of now, this new update is limited to the Chinese market. However, with the retrofit kit available soon, we expect that the Tesla owners in the UAE will also be able to import and upgrade their Model 3 EVs.

Our verdict

The latest Tesla Model 3 update will be available in the Chinese market soon. It will help the existing users to switch back to the physical stalk for turn signals. This will lead to lesser chances of road mishaps and confusion in driver’s mind while operating the EV.
