Yangwang U9 Track Edition sets world record

As per the details shared by the company, the Ynagwang U9 Track Edition, a track-specific model based on the U9 electric hypercar, has set a new world record of becoming the fastest EV in the world.
This new track record was set at Germany’s ATP or Automotive Testing Papenburg circuit by the test driver Marc Basseng. The test car clocked a record-breaking speed of 472.41 km/h, which made it the fastest electric vehicle ever to do it.
The U9 Track Edition is based on the e4 platform and the DiSus-X architecture that supports up to 1,200V ultra-high-voltage system. With the help of quad-motors, each mounted on an individual tyre, it cumulatively makes 3,000 bhp and a mammoth power-to-weight ratio of 1,205 bhp/tonne.
Moreover, each of these electric motors can reach up to 30,000 rpm, while individually developing 744 bhp. The quad-motors continuously adjust the torque provided to each tyre, with a change rate of up to 100 times per second.

Meanwhile, the Track Edition features a lightweight carbon fibre splitter that aids in high-speed stability. The DiSus-X helps in controlling the ptich and roll of the car, which ensures maximum control and power delivery to the wheels.
To establish this new world record, Ynagwang collaborated with Giti Tire to make special tyres that offer reduced torque loss and wear during the high-speed run.
For the sake of comparison, the standard U9 makes 1,287 bhp and 1,680 Nm of power and torque, with a claimed top speed of 309 km/h.
Yangwang U9 Track Edition launch details
The U9 Track Edition remains underneath the company’s umbrella as of now. While the brand has demonstrated the car in Australia, there are no launch plans revealed for now.
Our verdict
Beating the top speed record of any vehicle is a groundbreaking achievement in itself.
