BYD Shark 6: Expected price and variants
BYD sells the Shark 6 pickup truck in Mexico already. It is sold in two variants internationally: GL and GS. These are priced around AED 196,000 to AED 210,000. Therefore, we are also expecting the same prices for the UAE launch, which is scheduled for September 24.
BYD Shark 6: Engine specs and performance

BYD will be offering a 1.5-litre PHEV powertrain for the UAE market. The Shark 6 will be equipped with a longitudinal engine mated to a 29.5 kWh dual motor setup. This engine will standalone offer 181 bhp and 260 Nm.
Meanwhile, the front motor will offer 227 bhp and 330 Nm of power and torque, while the rear motor will offer 201 bhp and 340 Nm of power and torque.

The combined output of the Shark 6 for the UAE customers will be 436 bhp and 650 Nm. It will also get a pure electric range of up to 100 km, while the 60L fuel tank will offer a combined range of 840 km per fuel tank.
The claimed top speed of the Shark is 180 km/h, and it can sprint 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
BYD Shark 6: Design and dimensions

The overall design of the Shark 6 is that of a typical modern yet conventional pickup truck. It measures 5.41 metres in length and 1.97 metres in width, and 1.92 metres in height. The 3,260 mm wheelbase offers decent space for five adults.

It is based on the BYD Leopard 5 SUV, and offers a boxy design with a front fascia similar to the Ford F-150. Some of the design highlights include the LED lights, 18-inch wheels, front and rear scuff plates for off-roading, body claddings, and roof rails.

With that said, it gets 282 mm of ground clearance and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes, which makes it a strong contender against the Toyota Hilux, a pickup truck that is a best-seller in the Middle East.
BYD Shark 6: Interior and features

On the inside, the Shark 6 is loaded with a luxurious cabin draped in leather upholstery. There is ample space for five adults, and the features, like a utility-friendly centre console and door pads, cumulatively offer comfort and convenience.

Some of the top features of the Shark 6 pickup are as follows:
- Rotating 15.6-inch infotainment screen
- 10.25-inch digital instrument console
- Karaoke mode
- Front seats with electric adjustment
- Front seats with ventilation
- HUD
- Level 2 ADAS safety features

BYD Shark 6 vs Toyota Hilux in the UAE
The new Shark 6 will be officially launched in the UAE on September 24 with a boxy design, high ground clearance and off-road capabilities. It is expected to get a price tag of around AED 190,000.
Meanwhile, its direct rival will be the Toyota Hilux, which is positioned at AED 171,000 for the GR variant. The Hilux is not as modern as the Shark 6, and it gets fewer features. However, it’ll be interesting to see how BYD will compete with Toyota’s engineering and durability.
