F1 Bahrain GP and Saudi Arabia GP scrapped, here’s what happens next

Ā

Ever since the Middle East has been facing international conflict, the Formula 1 authorities and FIA have been considering moving the Bahrain GP and Saudi Arabia GP to a new place. However, the authorities have finalised to cancel the F1 races in the Middle East as the conflict with Iran keeps rising.

Ā

Moreover, the official announcement also quotes that there will be no replacement races for the Bahrain GP and Saudi Arabia GP. This means that the Formula 3, Formula 2, and Formula 1 races will leave a long five-week gap till the next race, as there will be no events in April 2026.

Ā

The authorities also considered moving to other locations, including a double-header in Japan or European tracks, such as Imola and Portimao. But the feasibility was not achieved, and the decision to remove these races was taken.

Ā

With these two GPs cancelled, the Formula 1 2026 season is now limited to 22 races only. Even the TV contracts have been fulfilled, which means there are no contractual obligations involved now.

Ā

Earlier, the Bahrain GP was scheduled to take place from Ā April 10-12, while the Saudi Arabian GP was scheduled for April 17-19, 2026.

The ongoing international conflict is affecting the Middle Eastern region in various ways. While we hope for the best solution as soon as possible, the cancellation of the F1 races sounds like the correct decision.
