In a major turnaround, Honda has announced that it has written off its plans to launch the 0 Series SUV and Sedan models globally. These 0 Series models were based on an all-new platform, and these were scheduled to go into production later this year.

Ā

As per the brand, it is heavily restructuring its EV plans globally. The Japanese brand has noticed that with time, new tech has evolved, which Honda has failed to adapt flexibly, thus leading to the brand falling behind the new Chinese EV rivals.

Ā

Moreover, the evolved tech in the EV segment has pushed the brands to make software-based electric vehicles, which Honda is still far from developing. This has crumbled the complete setup and the future plans of the company, as producing these EVs will lead to further losses, as per the company.Ā

Ā

Furthermore, Honda has also hinted that it planned to launch the 0 Series models in the US initially, but the Trump government has scrapped the EV benefits that the previous government had announced, which has led to a major turning point in the brand’s future decisions.

Ā

Meanwhile, Honda is planning to launch the 0 Alpha compact electric SUV in the South Asian markets, including India. The brand has clarified that the launch plans of the 0 Alpha SUV are on track for India.

Ā

What does this mean for the UAE?

Ā

While Honda is willing to step in the EV space significantly, the brand is already too late to the electric party around the globe. With the 0 Series SUV and Sedan announcement, Honda had clarified earlier that it will launch these models in the US and European markets.

Ā

UAE’s car market is already flooded with Chinese electric cars like BYD, Chery, Jetour, and more, which have been offering software-based EVs for a long time. Hence, it is highly unlikely for Honda to launch an EV in the near future in the Middle East.

Ā

Honda’s decision to write off the 0 Series SUV and Sedan launch plans is a major hint that the brand is facing visionary challenges. While the rest of the brands are moving towards the new-age EVs, Honda is facing a consistent downfall in sales of its ICE models as well.
