What to expect from the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero Sport?

At the latest Automobile Council 2026 in Japan, the newly appointed COO and President of Mitsubishi, Keisuke Kishiura, confirmed that the brand will launch a new cross-country SUV later this year.
This confirmation comes along with the new spy shots of this unnamed SUV from Australia, where it is likely to be launched initially, along with Japan. The spy shots reveal a commanding road presence, while the boxy silhouette of the upcoming SUV is adamant.
Although the test car is completely covered, it features a T-shaped LED DRL setup at the front, a big grille, flared fenders, and a rear design with vertical LED lights and a split gate setup similar to the new Nissan Patrol.
The online reports also confirmed that the upcoming SUV, which is globally anticipated to be the next generation of the Pajero Sport, will be based on a ladder-frame chassis. Moreover, it will be bigger in size than the current Pajero Sport, and it will be positioned against the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250.
Mitsubishi is likely to move to a new segment with the Pajero nameplate with this new model. Even the Automobile Council 2026 stall of Mitsubishi had a Pajero theme, which widely indicated that the brand will reintroduce the iconic SUV.
We expect the interior will also be focused on offering luxury, comfort, and space for cross-country touring and off-road events, including camping and other outdoor activities. The new SUV will not only offer ruggedness, but it will also offer advanced features such as ADAS safety, wireless connectivity, electric seats, and more.
What will power the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero Sport?
As per the online reports, the next-gen Pajero Sport will share its underpinnings with the new Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. Hence, it will get the 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine option.
Moreover, certain markets like the Middle East will possibly get a PHEV or plug-in hybrid engine. Mitsubishi is also likely to offer a superior Super Select 4WD system on the next-gen Pajero Sport.
When will it launch in the UAE?
While Mitsubishi has not revealed the exact details of this unnamed SUV, we strongly believe that it will be badged Pajero, and it will be launched in Japan and other countries by the end of this year.
However, Mitsubishi enjoys a strong market share in the Middle East, and a majority of it comes from the Pajero. Hence, the next-gen Pajero Sport could be introduced in the UAE by next year.
Cars24 UAE says
The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport model will be substantially different from the current model. It will grow bigger in size, offer better interior space and comfort, and come loaded with smart powertrain options. It will compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado upon launch in the global market later this year.
