What do we know about the Nissan GT-R R36?

So, a latest conversation between The Drive and Nissan North America’s Senior Vice President - Chief Planning Officer, Ponz Pandikuthira, has revealed that the brand is working on the new R36 GT-R model. Mind you, the previous generation GT-R R35 was axed last year, citing its failure against the strict Euro 7 emission norms.
The conversation also revealed that the new GT-R R36 will be based on a completely new chassis with heavy modifications that would place it against the top supercars in the market. Moreover, Nissan is likely to power it with a new hybrid engine, which could possibly use the VR38 engine block of the previous GT-R R35.
However, Nissan will embed electrification to a certain extent, while keeping the ‘soul’ of motoring alive by offering the V6 twin-turbo engine. We do remember that Nissan had showcased the 2023 Hyper Force concept, which was speculated to be the next GT-R model with a fully electric powertrain offering up to 1,300 bhp. Well, that is not happening for sure as per Ponz.
Moreover, the hybrid engine will make the next generation of GT-R R36 Euro 7 compatible, which is a major hurdle to cross for the brand. Speaking of the launch timeline, Ponz says that a concrete statement will be released by the end of 2028, while the global launch will take place by 2030.
What does it mean for the UAE?
The GT-R R35 has been one of the most iconic sports cars in the UAE. It is widely popular among rental car agencies as the majority of customers opt for the GT-R for its legacy of street cred.
We are certain that Nissan will surely launch the next-generation GT-R R36 in the UAE soon.
