No diesel for the Nissan Patrol - Here’s why

Nissan Patrol

The current Nissan Patrol is one of the most demanded SUVs in the world, especially in the Middle East market. The primary reason behind this is its durability and powerful performance.

However, once the Patrol had a diesel engine option which made it became a reliable SUV brand, and helped in beating the Toyota Land Cruiser’s legacy. But the latest model does not get a diesel engine option.

As per the latest media interaction, Antonio Lopez, Chief Product Specialist for full-size Nissan SUVs, has said that the latest Patrol has been designed as per the customer's needs.

Antonio told Australia’s Drive that the 2025 Patrol has been carefully crafted as per what customers demand and want at this price point. Hence, it comes loaded with powerful yet silent petrol engine options.

As far as the diesel engine is concerned, the brand is not interested in developing a new one for the Patrol. With that said, the current Patrol SUV is offered in two petrol engine options, which perform as per the customer expectations and requirements.

In fact, Nissan has also cut down its investment in new diesel engines. The current Navara pickup truck comes with an old diesel engine, which shall also get replaced by a plug-in hybrid in 2026.

Antonio clarified that the new-generation petrol and hybrid engines do all the job. While the diesel engines are still in demand in certain markets, the overall trend has shifted towards the new-age hybrid and petrol technology.

What does this mean for the UAE?

The latest official confirmation by Nissan clarifies that the UAE or the Middle Eastern car markets will not get a diesel Patrol SUV in the future. However, the new twin-turbo V6 petrol engine offers more than adequate performance and off-road capabilities.

Cars24 UAE says

The 2025 Nissan Patrol offers adequate performance and off-road capabilities. It has been crafted as per customer needs worldwide. The phase out of the diesel engine technology is a global shift that Nissan is also following.
