Nissan has set a new world record by driving the longest distance on a single fuel tank on any extended-range vehicle (EREV) ever. The new Guinness World Record was set by a dedicated expert team driving and monitoring the Nissan Qashqai E-Power in Colombia.

Nissan Qashqai’s new world record: Here’s why it is important

After two years of setting a world record for the highest bungee jump of 213 feet ever done by a car, Nissan Qashqai has made yet another record. This time, the E-Power EREV or the range-extender electric vehicle iteration of the Qashqai, has completed the longest drive in a single tank of fuel ever completed by an EREV.

The new record took place in Colombia, where the Qashqai record-making car completed 1,980 km on a single fuel tank and without recharging. This new Guinness World Record was completed from July 14-17, from Bogotá to the Carribean sea cost.

However, the catch is that Bogotá is in the centre of Colombia, and it is at 8,660 feet above sea level. So, the whole drive was mostly downhill. Moreover, Nissan made sure that the car used as little fuel as possible by consistently monitoring the tyre air pressure, keeping the speed limit controlled, and making sure that the car’s regenerative braking was put to good use.

Mind you, the Nissan Qashqai is an efficient SUV. It is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 154 bhp of peak power. It is mated to a 2.1 kWh battery that drives an electric motor, producing 188 bhp and 330 Nm itself. The engine acts as a power generator and continuously charges the battery pack, while the SUV is driven by the electric motor the whole time.

What does it mean for UAE buyers?

The new Nissan Qashqai is not available in the UAE. However, its strong fuel efficiency and comfort quotient are likely to attract customers in the GCC region if Nissan brings it here. Moreover, the Qashqai’s E-Power technology will be strongly positioned against the Chinese EREV models like the Jetour T2.
