Nissan GT-R R35 - End of the road

The GT-R moniker has been one of the top wishlist sports cars among every true car enthusiast. However, the Japanese carmaker has officially put a stop to its most iconic sports car after 18 years of production.

This decision has been taken after assessing the tightening global emission norms for the GT-R brand as it has already exhausted past its life cycle in the international market.

Joyfully known as ā€˜Godzilla, the GT-R R35 was initially introduced in 2007 at the Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.Ā

The goal was to establish a sports car brand that offered performance, handling, and affordability, all together, to beat the competition, including the famous Porsche 911.Ā

The GT-R immediately garnered fame and respect among the sports car community with its famous record-breaking performance figures.

Nissan also achieved the iconic lap time of 7 minutes and 29 seconds on the Nurburgring track with the stock tyres. This made the GT-R one of the fastest production cars at the time.

UAE’s connection with Nissan GT-R

Nissan officially introduced the GT-R R35 sports car in the UAE in 2016. With its launch, the GT-R received numerous bookings across the Middle East.

The already famous moniker was loved by the car community in the UAE, as GT-R could easily compete with the Italian sports cars with nearly half the price tag.

Moreover, Nissan later introduced the track-modified NISMO GT-R R35 in the UAE, which offered more power, performance and stability.

The GT-R has been one of the most demanded sports cars among the cars for rent in UAE.

Another reason behind its popularity in the UAE was its tuner-friendly engine and parts. The aftermarket tuning shops could easily bump its 565 bhp engine above 700 bhp and even more.

Nissan GT-R R35 engine performance

The last update that the GT-R received was back in 2024, when the company launched its final model for the US market.

Citing the consistently tightening emission norms, Nissan also stated that it is the last GT-R model.

The standard variants came equipped with a 3.8-litre, V8, bi-turbo engine that made 565 bhp and 637 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively.

Meanwhile, the NISMO GT-R R35 produced 591 bhp and 652 Nm of power and torque figures.

Both models, the standard and NISMO, were equipped with a quick GR6 dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Our conclusion

Nissan’s decision to axe the GT-R brand was long pending. The company had already announced this decision last year, and now the production has ended.

For car lovers, especially the GT-R fans, the dream of buying a new model will never be fulfilled. However, the used car market in the UAE is full of second-hand Nissan GT-R cars, which offer good value.
