Toyota Fortuner discontinued - Here's why
Â

Â
The Fortuner nameplate has to be one of the top-selling and most popular SUVs worldwide. It also happens to be one of the most affordable three-row SUVs of the brand in certain markets, including Australia.
Â
However, the Australian wing of Toyota has axed the Fortuner due to the “shift in customer preferences”. This shift, which Toyota is referring to, is largely focused towards customers buying the Hilux or the Land Cruiser Prado.Â
Â
One primary reason behind the discontinuation is the old design and utilitarian feel of the cabin of the Fortuner. While it is a capable and reliable SUV, the Fortuner is already past its lifecycle and looks old.
Â
Moreover, the Fortuner is powered by a 2.7-litre petrol engine, which has also reached the end of its lifecycle as it is not compliant with the latest emission norms in Australia and Europe. Hence, the brand is also axing this engine for the future models.
Â
Meanwhile, Toyota has been spied testing the new-generation Fortuner model earlier. Moreover, online reports from Japan have previously hinted at a new, strong-hybrid petrol engine-powered new-gen Fortuner, which might launch by 2027.
Â
As of now, there will be no replacement for the Fortuner in Australia.
Â
What about the Toyota Fortuner in the UAE?
Â
The Middle Eastern car market is Toyota's bread and butter. The brand is not only the top-selling carmaker in the UAE and the Middle East, but it also rules in the SUV market. Fortuner, being one of the most affordable and reliable Toyota SUVs in the UAE, will remain on sale in the future.
Â
But, keeping in mind that the current-generation model is already old, we suspect that Toyota will launch the new-gen hybrid Fortuner in the Middle East by 2027.

Cars24 UAE says
Â
The Toyota Fortuner is completing its lifecycle in the international markets, including Australia. It is a capable and reliable SUV, which is now less feasible for new-gen buyers as the siblings like the Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado offer equivalent performance and more features with purpose.Â
