Toyota introduced the FJ Cruiser nameplate in 1951. Ever since, it has been a popular lifestyle SUV internationally, and especially in the UAE. The new Land Cruiser FJ is the latest iteration that focuses on the practicality and dependability of the brand.

Speaking of the design, it features the same boxy shape for which it has been famous for decades. It is based on the IMV platform, which is shared with the Toyota Hilux and the Fortuner.

However, the touch of modernity has grasped it in the sense of the new LED lights and bulged-out body panels with the MOLLE technology, which was first seen on the Lunar Cruiser. This allows users to install camping and overlanding accessories on the panels.

Meanwhile, Toyota has also fitted it with removable bumpers, something we have never seen before. These bumpers are easy to replace in case of damage during off-roading. Even the front fascia can be changed by opting for the round LED headlights.

The rear design is rather conventional with the vertical C-shaped LED taillights and the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Overall, the new Land Cruiser is boxy and utilitarian for everyday use.

Dimension-wise, it is 4,575 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,960 mm tall. These dimensions are identical to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which was recently introduced.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Interior and features

The cabin of the new Land Cruiser FJ is also designed for lifestyle-SUV use. It features an all-black theme, which is suitable for off-roading as it is easy to clean. Additionally, it has all the bells and whistles of a modern car as well.

The Land Cruiser FJ features seating for five adults, whilst the rear row has the ‘Theatre Seats’. The dashboard is equipped with a big infotainment screen and a digital console. Although the details of the cabin and engine specs are yet to be revealed by Toyota.

For what we know, it gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, dual-zone AC, leather seats, and most importantly, the Level 2 ADAS, aka Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Engine specs

Toyota has equipped the Land Cruiser FJ with the Fortuner-sourced 2.7-litre petrol engine. This unit is very durable and makes 163 bhp and 246 Nm. This is mated to a new 6-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain of the new FJ Cruiser is 4X4, which also gets electronically locking differentials.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: UAE launch date and price

Toyota will reveal the first prototype of the new Land Cruiser FJ in Japan between October 30 to November 6, 2025, at the Japan Mobility Show. The production version is scheduled to launch in Japan by mid-2026. 

Therefore, we are expecting it to launch in the UAE by late 2026. Since it will be positioned below the Land Cruiser Prado, its pricing could range around AED 130,000.

Upon launch, it will rival the Land Rover Defender 90 in the UAE. While the Defender 90 is known for its luxury and compact size, the Land Cruiser FJ is expected to offer a more rugged appeal with durability.
