Why has the Mercedes-Benz EQB been discontinued?

The EQB was first showcased to the world in 2021. It is one of the select three-row SUVs of the brand, offering a full-size feel and practicality with long-range.
However, after a short production stint of 4 years, Mercedes has axed it in the US and Canadian markets. The brand said to a media agency that it will not continue any further after the MY2025 models are sold.
The primary reason cited as per the brand is that it has reached its lifecycle end. However, our speculation suggests that it has been axed due to low demand. Mercedes-Benz has been struggling lately with EV sales, as the G-Class EQ is also suffering from poor sales.
What will replace the Mercedes-Benz EQB?
While Mercedes has not disclosed anything officially, the brand did announce at the IAA Mobility Show in 2023 that it is working on a new-generation GLB, and it will be offered with the EQ (EV) technology.
Moreover, the majority of the international media and auto experts are suggesting that the new-generation GLB EQ is going to be the replacement of the EQB. This upcoming three-row SUV has already been spotted testing in Europe.
What to expect from the next-generation Mercedes-Benz EQB?
As far as the next-generation EQB is concerned, we know that it will be based on an all-new 800V architecture. This will give it an edge over the current model by increasing its efficiency and performance.
It is possible that the new-generation EQB will come equipped with a range of over 800 km, modern features such as AI integration, and enhanced safety features as well.
Our verdict
The EQB is currently on sale in the UAE and the Middle East. However, it is clear that it will be axed in the coming months worldwide. Its replacement is expected to come in the form of a new GLB EQ model, which shall offer more range, performance, and better features.
