The Auto China 2026, aka the Beijing Auto Show 2026, has interesting new models from big makers like Nissan. The Japanese company has unveiled its upcoming models in China. Read everything we know so far about the Nissan Urban SUV PHEV and the Nissan Terrano PHEV below.

What is the Nissan Terrano PHEV?

Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show 2026, the Terrano PHEV SUV returns in a new avatar. The Terrano nameplate was used earlier on the Nissan Pathfinder in 1980s and 1990s in the global market.

However, this upcoming model is going to be a different model. In fact, it will become the first true plug-in hybrid model of Nissan globally.

While the brand did not disclose any details about it, we firmly believe that it shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Frontier Pro truck, which is available in the certain markets like Australia.

Size-wise, it will be positioned below the Nissan Patrol. Hence, we can safely say that it falls in the same category as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250.

The official images released showcase a prototype, but it looks near production-ready. The prototype model has a boxy design with conventional SUV styling and modern bits like the sharp LED lights, flared wheel arches, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, functional roof rails, and more.

It also features some interesting design bits, including the illuminated grille with Nissan lettering, and a spare wheel cover with Nissan lettering at the back.

The good part is that Nissan says it is coming sooner than we think. A production model based on the prototype photos will be released within the next one year.

Nissan has also silently said that an “all-terrain” version of the Terrano PHEV will come as well. However, this version will be a more “specific” model for off-roading, and it is likely meant for certain markets, probably the Middle East as the pivot.

What is the Nissan Urban SUV PHEV?

The second concept model unveiled at the Auto China 2026 by Nissan is the Urban SUV PHEV. Unlike the Terrano PHEV, this model will focus on the urban landscape and high efficiency.

The concept model revealed draws its inspiration from the Nissan NX8, which is a popular model in the Chinese market. It has chiselled body panels, a closed front grille, a sloping roofline with integrated spoiler, and connected wraparound LED taillights at the rear.

This SUV focuses on the young buyers as per the Nissan officials. Its smoother bodywork is likely going to attract new buyers who are looking for a sleek-looking crossover SUV with plug-in hybrid efficiency.

What do we expect from these models?

Nissan has been on the verge of bankruptcy. The brand has hardly managed to get out of it with its new-age models and electric car range, which now adds the Terrano PHEV and the Urban SUV PHEV models.

The plug-in hybrid technology is likely to offer good fuel economy and high fuel saving for city commuters. Meanwhile, Terrano’s all-terrain capabilities will be enhanced with the PHEV.

We expect Nissan to launch both of these vehicles in the UAE market by 2027-end.
