2026 MGU9 Ute: Design and dimensions

The new MGU9 has been derived from the Maxus/LDV Terron 9 pickup truck, which is a popular utility vehicle in the Chinese market. However, MG has incorporated its own design and luxury traits into it.
For example, it gets a redesigned chrome grille with big horizontal slats, a set of new LED headlights, a new front bumper, and the big MG badge. Similarly, the rear-end uses a new bumper and new taillights.

In terms of the dimensions, the MGU9 is 5,500 mm long, 2,265 mm wide, and 1,874 mm tall. For reference, it is 5.1 inches longer than the Ford Ranger.

It also gets an electronically-foldable tailgate that has in-built steps and onboard seats with cupholders for passengers to enjoy outdoor picnics and breaks.
2026 MGU9 Ute: Interior and features

On the inside, it features the same interior design as the Terron 9. However, it is the aircraft-inspired gearshift lever that takes the attention.

Apart from the gear lever, the rest of the cabin looks familiar to the Terron 9. It gets the dual screen display, wide and comfortable seats, rear AC vents, and more, to offer a premium and comfortable appeal.

In terms of features, the MGU9 is loaded with the following features on the top-spec Explore Pro variant:
- 12.3-inch infotainment screen
- 12.3-inch digital instrument display
- Leather upholstery
- Ventilated and electrically-adjustable front seats
- Ambient lighting
- 8-speaker JBL sound system
- Heated outboard seats
- Electric tailgate with built-in steps
- Panoramic sunroof
- Wireless charging
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Level 2 ADAS safety features
2026 MGU9 Ute: Engine specs

Powering the MGU9 is the SAIC-sourced 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that makes 215 bhp of power and 520 Nm of torque. It is mated to a ZF-sourced 8-speed auto gearbox.
Its 4x4 system gets electronically locking differentials, which can be operated on the go via a button. With that said, it has a payload capacity of 770 kg to 870 kg. Meanwhile, the towing capacity is rated to 3.5 tonnes.
The claimed fuel economy of the MGU9 is 12.65 km/l. It gets a multi-link independent suspension at the rear, which is opposite to the leaf-spring setup seen on the rivals like the Toyota Hilux.
UAE launch and availability

MG has a strong market position in the Middle East with products like the ZS. However, beating the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger could be a bigger challenge here.
As of now, MGU9 will be sold in Australia only. But we hope that it will make it to the UAE by the end of 2026. The prices could be around AED 128,000 to AED 145,000.
Our verdict
MGU9 is the latest bet of the brand in Australia. However, tackling the already established products like the Toyota Hilux could be difficult. We hope that this new pickup truck comes to the UAE soon, as it is loaded with modern features and a powerful diesel drivetrain.
